In an attempt to combat problem gaming, Canadian officials have installed a “Responsible Gambling Information Centre” at the Palace Casino in the West Edmonton Mall in the province of Alberta, from which a casino consultant group will offer gamblers true information about gambling, and dispel common myths.
The casino consultant representatives will also offer players information about a program offered by the Alberta casinos in which those who believe they have a gambling problem may asked to be barred from entering.
The center’s employees have all been trained by the Alberta Association of Drug and Alcohol Control.
The casino consultant centre will cost around $300,000 to open. It will continue until March 2008, at which time its effectiveness will be evaluated, and it will be renewed or discontinued. The centre will open its doors each day, on Tuesday through Sunday, at noon, and continue serving casino patrons until 8:00 p.m.
